Teen Read Week is Just Around the Corner

It is October and that means Teen Read Week is fast approaching. We always celebrate big in the PFTSTA Library. I use it to get kids into the library who don't usually visit unless required by a teacher. I like having my regulars too, of course. The members of the high school book group, Bookmarked, always help me plan and oversee the running of all the activities. It is the middle school kids who really get excited about the events. 

This year, we sort of streamlined things. I think that I am prone to over plan, and if there are too many activities, the students don't really know which ones to choose. I think that  this year is going to be a great one!

Teen Read Week @ PFTSTA LIbrary

October 15th—19th

1. Annual Library Book Mark Contest: There will be one winner from middle school and one winner from high school. The winners will each receive a $20 Barnes and Noble gift card, and their bookmark reproduced on cardstock to give away to the PFTSTA community. You can print out the entry form in the email from Ms. Kahn or visit the library for a hard copy or open here: http://bit.ly/S2mkrb.

All bookmarks are due in the library by Monday, October 29th by 2:30PM.

2. In What World Would You Like to Live? Tell us in what fictional world you wish you could live. All answers will be added to the Where in the World Wall. (you do not have to give your name)

3. What would you look like if you lived in another world? Visit the library Wednesday and Friday at lunch for this activity. We will have assorted costumes that you can put on if you lived somewhere other than Earth. We will take your picture and post on a bulletin board and library website.

4. Out of This World guessing game: Every day during Teen Read Week you can visit the library to get a clue about another world or character who lives in another world. If you answer correctly you will receive a prize. You may enter this contest once a day for the entire week.

5. Fine Forgiveness Week: You may return any overdue book/s during Teen Read Week without having to pay a fine.
6. Guess the Starburst Contest: Guess the correct number of Starburst candies in the jar and win a signed book by a YA author. The five students whose answers are closest to the correct number without going over will win one author signed book each.

7. Twilight Zone travels to other worlds: Visit the library at lunch on Monday, to watch an episode of the Twilight Zone narrated by Rod Serling that takes you out of this world. Popcorn will be served.
