Making Shields to Defend the Books

We were off of school for four days to celebrate Mardi Gras. So on our return today, I had to put the finishing touches on our Teen Tech Week Activities and our Mock BOB which all begins next week. You can find out what we are doing on the library website here. I will post pictures of all the events on this same webpage, so you can check back at the end of next week to see how it went.

We are gearing up to fight in the Battle of the Books, so to help the students get into the mood when we stride into the battlefield, I made two shields to use for defense. I cut out cardboard and covered it with aluminum foil. The students sketched their ideas on paper, and then used permanent markers to decorate the shields. I would have had the students make the shields too, but with the days off from school, I just ran out of time.

Students are definitely interested in taking their books into battle. Most have loved the books that they selected from SLJ's list, but there are a couple who don't know what they are going to say to convince others to vote for their book. You can find the list of the books that we are reading here
